Paul Carvalho is a Montreal-based film-maker. Through his independent film company, Perception Films, he has had key creative input in nearly twenty hour-long documentaries over the last decade. Locations span from Harlem to London, from Rome to Rio, from the heart of Africa to Alaska and the Canadian Arctic. Among broadcasters that have exhibited Paul’s films are France’s ARTE, PBS, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Discovery’s Planet Green, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Radio-Canada. 

Paul Carvalho has profiled Canadian personalities Margaret Trudeau, Olympic champion Sylvie Frechette, native painter Norval Morrisseau,  Florentine stained-glass artist Guido Nincheri and former Quebec premier Paul Sauvé. 

Paul’s most recent film, Black Wave, The Legacy of the Exxon Valdez (co-writer, co-producer with director Robert Cornellier of Macumba Films) was broadcast on the 20th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill (March 2009.) It was nominated for two Gemini and two Gemeaux awards and won a Gemini for best director, Robert Cornellier.

Perception Films is currently at work on a 5-hour documentary series on the history of Montreal, for Radio-Canada.
